Trachoma a serious eye infection
Trachoma, the world's leading cause of infectious blindness, is a preventable eye infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis.
Transmission occurs by direct contact with ocular secretions of infected persons.
Sharing personal hygiene items such as towels or handkerchiefs and then rubbing the eyes with the fingers, but flies are also an important vector for spreading the bacteria.
