Obesity and Diabetes
Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by an abnormal increase in body weight due to an excessive accumulation of fat.
The amount of adipose tissue is the cumulative result of the difference between energy intake and energy expenditure. A body mass index > 30, as well as visceral obesity, with a waist-to-hip ratio > 0.93 for men and > 0.84 for women, are risk factors for DM2.
