Mental Development from 3 to 5 Years
Skills such as knowing the names of colors, showing affection, and hopping on one foot are called developmental milestones. Developmental milestones are the actions that most children can do at a given age.
Children achieve these indicators in the way they play, learn, talk, behave and move (e.g., crawling, walking, jumping).
Positive Parenting Tips, Here are some things you, as a parent, can do to help your preschooler at this stage:
Continue to read to your child.
Take him to libraries and bookstores to instill a love of books.
Let him help with simple chores.
Encourage him to play with other children. This will help him understand the value of sharing and friendship.
Be clear and do not change the rules when disciplining your child. Explain and show him the behavior you expect. When he says no, tell him what he should do.
Help your child develop language skills by speaking in complete sentences and adult words. Help your child use the right words and phrases.
Help your child solve problems when frustrated.
Give him a limited number of simple choices (e.g., let him decide what he will wear, when he can play, and what he will eat for snacks).
