Virology
Viruses are composed of genetic material known as DNA or RNA and have an enveloping structure called a capsid, made up of proteins. Some viruses have an additional lipid envelope.
In order to multiply easily, the virus needs to infect a living cell. Therefore, organisms susceptible to viral infection are fungi, bacteria, parasites, plants and animals.
Broadly speaking, viruses can be classified into animal, plant or bacterial viruses. In turn, animal viruses are classified into different families according to their size, shape, structure and the nucleic acid they carry.
