Health and human rights
WHO defines the right to the "highest attainable standard of health" as requiring a set of social criteria that are conducive to the health of all people, including the availability of health services, safe working conditions, adequate housing and nutritious food.
The enjoyment of the right to health is closely related to the enjoyment of other human rights such as the rights to food, housing, work, education, non-discrimination, access to information and participation.
A human rights-based approach to health offers strategies and solutions to address and correct the inequalities, discriminatory practices and unfair power relations that are often at the heart of inequity in health outcomes.
