Ectoparasitosis
The term ectoparasites can include temporary blood-sucking arthropods such as mosquitoes, but this term is generally used more narrowly to refer to pathogens such as ticks, fleas, lice, parasitic flies and mites that attach to the skin and remain there for relatively long periods of time.
Among the ectoparasitoses there is a family of diseases of public health importance called epidermal parasitic skin diseases. Parasitic diseases in this group have the characteristic that parasite-host interactions are limited to the upper layers of the skin. They are common in resource-poor settings and are associated with significant morbidity.
